Hod Boy, Forest of Dean

This amazing wood carving of a Forest of Dean boy hauling boxes of coal ('hod') in the narrow mine shafts can be found on the Soudley Heritage Trail. Often not more than 2ft high. Children, both girls and boys, as young as 8 were widely employed in the mines.
